Are Proxies Legal?
Many people are finding that there are great advantages to using proxy sites to surf the web without being detected. Rather than risk their computer or their job for that matter viewing sites that are blocked or recorded by the firewall, they simply use the proxy server to act as their go between when surfing, thus protecting not only their machine but also their identity through their efforts. But the main question is whether or not proxies are legal. There is not a simple answer to that question and we must explore a few options before answering with any degree of certainty.
As a whole proxies are legal, but if they are used for illegal activities then they fall into that gray area where things that are not illegal become illegal because of the way they are used. With that said, there is nothing wrong with using a proxy server to surf the internet. It is a legitimate method for protecting your computer from hackers and malware that are abound on the internet today. However, should you choose to use the proxy as an agent of illegal activities you will most likely be subjected to criminal proceedings based on what you have done through the proxy server.
In the basic assumptions there is nothing illegal about using a proxy server. So you have no need to worry if you are simply trying to log in to a favorite website during your lunch hour when the site happens to be blocked by the company firewall. All you need to do is keep your surfing activities above the law and you will have no trouble at all.
