The word proxy literally means a person or thing that acts on the authority of another. Proxy is used in many settings but for this discussion we will use the term for web related information. When thinking about the web, proxy is attached to server, which is called a proxy server or a server that acts under the authority of another user which is not directly related to the original. Confusing? It can be but lets break it down to more simple terms.

A proxy server takes the place of another server when calling up certain websites and information on the world wide web. For instance, rather than using the connection that you have through the internet service provider, you are logging on to another server, then accessing the information. In doing so you are actually hiding who you are from the site which you have chosen.

In truth, proxy web surfing allows you to maintain anonymity while visiting the web pages and downloading across the internet. There are some issues when relating to this method of surfing. Some websites require an IP check, which is not possible with proxy surfing. However, for those that are afraid of hackers gaining access to their information proxy surfing makes perfect sense.

One of the most popular uses of proxy surfing is when the internet connection you have is protected by a firewall. This happens most often in a work or school setting and you can use the proxy server to access certain sites that are locked out through the firewall. It makes sure that there is no trail left behind to trace the access to your IP address.

The universities all over the world are tagging some websites as dangerous for the young eyes. The biggest frontage is given to MySpace which in turn is deemed inappropriate for the students. MySpace is claimed to have more than a hundred million viewers and these statistics make it the largest social networking site in the world. The viewers are increasing everyday. And the growing intimated links between its subscribers is something that worries the educational institutes around the globe. The motivation to block MySpace at school is to ensure that students stay aimed at their schoolwork rather than using school resources to mess away their educational journey.

Despite all of this we do know that schools become autonomous and therefore students do need to get into a bit of social activity. Care should be taken that it doesn’t go overboard. Almost all the public and private schools have set up huge firewalls that will prevent learners from retrieving certain websites.

To access MySpace from school you need to use an application that makes you surf the web and it appears as if your doing some work to all those who pass by. Simply put in as for all those who view your computer will feel that you’re doing some work where as you can easily surf any site you want. You need a browser that hides itself into normal work applications like Word, Excel or PowerPoint. With a click of a mouse you can simply switch between the applications. One such application is called Swinging Proxy. There are many such similar applications available on the net as well.

Another way to access MySpace from school would be the use of proxy sites. This system uses encryption to disguise the real IP address and ultimately route the request. As the request is made from the web browser to the destination server through the proxy, only the proxy can read the IP address, content and the origin. The final destination server decrypts the contents and delivers the request to the web browser without a record of where the request started. The web page then returns in the similar fashion, through a series of encryptions. This system impedes traffic report and thus gives you the privacy to surf MySpace from school.

There are many web sites in this world that people are not fond of. Sometimes there is a very good reason, like if the site happens to have a virus or what have you. Other times it is simply because the person does not agree with the content of the site and chooses to make certain that others cannot access the information. That is the case with adult sites. These sites are not meant to be accessed by those under the age of eighteen and not to be accessed at work place environments, but there are still people that try. To stop this from happening the companies and schools of the world have taken to installing firewall technology. This allows them to effectively block and monitor the outbound and inbound information scattered across the web. However, there is a method for skirting this limitation.

If you wish to perform this action you will need to locate proxy sites. This is a site, located away from your location, that will act as your connection to the internet. Unlike your own surfing, the proxy surfer is not limited to what the firewall allows because it operates under its own system and therefore cannot be blocked. With this method you are surfing the web under a different name and IP address than the original which puts into place the safe connection and allows the access you want.

Make sure that the proxy site you choose for this is safe. While there are a good many proxy servers around, not all of them are safe and they could allow viruses to infect your system should it be allowed to operate.

Many people are finding that there are great advantages to using proxy sites to surf the web without being detected. Rather than risk their computer or their job for that matter viewing sites that are blocked or recorded by the firewall, they simply use the proxy server to act as their go between when surfing, thus protecting not only their machine but also their identity through their efforts. But the main question is whether or not proxies are legal. There is not a simple answer to that question and we must explore a few options before answering with any degree of certainty.

As a whole proxies are legal, but if they are used for illegal activities then they fall into that gray area where things that are not illegal become illegal because of the way they are used. With that said, there is nothing wrong with using a proxy server to surf the internet. It is a legitimate method for protecting your computer from hackers and malware that are abound on the internet today. However, should you choose to use the proxy as an agent of illegal activities you will most likely be subjected to criminal proceedings based on what you have done through the proxy server.

In the basic assumptions there is nothing illegal about using a proxy server. So you have no need to worry if you are simply trying to log in to a favorite website during your lunch hour when the site happens to be blocked by the company firewall. All you need to do is keep your surfing activities above the law and you will have no trouble at all.

Hello All! Another intresting article for all the myspacers.

All over the world there are websites which some institutions deem dangerous or not for all eyes. The biggest fore runner in this game is the many public and private schools who have set up massive firewalls that will prevent students from accessing certain websites they deem wrong or not appropriate for their eyes. One such site is the popular Myspace, the world’s largest and most populace social networking area. At the current time Myspace can boast over one hundred million users and that number grows on a daily basis. The links between the people is what has caused the concern for schools and they have blocked access by way of the firewall.

There is an answer for those looking to log in to Myspace from school. The use of a proxy server is the best method for getting around the limitations that are set in place by the firewall. The proxy server is a separate server machine, like a computer only larger and more powerful, that allows access to the internet via its own connection. This works around the connection you have through the school’s internet service provider. So therefore you are actually getting around the limitations that are put in place and doing so without leaving your own trail.

A proxy server allows you to access Myspace through their system with a completely random internet address. This means that the people who are monitoring the firewall will not be able to track the login back to you or the time when you were using the computer because you were logged in to another server at another location.
